Please read this entire prospectus: The Alameda “Jewel by the Bay” event is a fundraiser and showcase for the Frank Bette Center for the Arts. Frank Bette, a prolific artist of many interests, was a plein air artist of the West and the local Alameda scene. He left his home, studio and shop to the people of Alameda to be a “place for meetings, readings, showings, and other creative doings”. Now in its third year, the FBCA hosts monthly art shows, poetry and prose readings and collaborates with local businesses and schools, making it a favorite destination for artists from all over the Bay Area. The First Annual Alameda “Jewel by the Bay” Paint Out Invitational will be a juried event. Forty selected artists will be invited to Alameda to paint tree- lined historic architecture, lagoons, estuary and San Francisco bay views from July 19-23, 2006. Artists must complete one or two (2) framed and ready to hang paintings. All two dimensional media is acceptable. The work must be done en plein air, within city limits, without the benefit of photography. On Saturday, July 22, the public will be invited to participate in a Quick Draw Event at Crown Memorial Beach.. Paintings must be completed in 2 hours time. Registration fee for the Quick Draw is $10. Invited plein air artists are encouraged to participate in the Quick Draw as we anticipate on the spot sales. A 25% commission on Quick Draw sales will benefit the FBCA. Sunday, July 23 there will be a celebratory brunch, awards ceremony and professional auction of the completed paintings provided by each artist. Artists may set a minimum bid for their paintings. A 40% commission on sales will benefit the FBCA. Unsold paintings are the responsibility of the artist. Participating artists may submit work to the August Plein Air Exhibit at the Frank Better Center for the Arts at no additional fee. -------------------------------------------------------------------
