Founded in 2002 by Marilyn Rose and Jane Welles to provide an opportunity for artists to paint outdoors in a supportive and congenial group, in order to improve their own skills as well as to contribute to the esthetics of the community by painting their impressions of the local landscape.

There are currently 35 members on the phone list, with about 15 active core members who consistently participate in the weekly paintouts. Artists of all levels are welcome.

Weekly paintouts are set by Marilyn and Jane, and members may call either of them on Sunday night or Monday, or may open Marilyn's website and go to the Nevada County Plein Air Painters page, to find out that week's day, time and location. Members are encouraged to call each other and set up other dates to paint together as well.
