Contact President: Peter AdamsPurpose The most venerable and largest of the California painting clubs, the CAC is dedicated to "enriching the American culture through the promotion of the fine arts in the fields of painting, drawing, and sculpture with a special emphasis placed on the academic traditions and craftsmanship bequeathed by its founders." Past members include many early California Impressionist painters of note such as William Wendt, Edgar Payne and Franz Bischoff.Membership Several levels of membership. Thirty-five Signature Members. Artist members, Mentor Members, and Patron Members. Total membership is about 1700. Founded in 1909 in Pasadena.Activities Sponsors numerous paintouts, events and lectures throughout the year. Presents prominent guest speakers at its monthly luncheon meetings in the Los Angeles area. Recently founded the California Art Academy and Museum. Sponsors the annual San Juan Capistrano Paintout at the Capistrano Mission.Shows The prestigious Annual Gold Medal Exhibition in Southern California is held at the Pasadena Museum of California Art. Monthly member shows at the Old Mill in San Mateo.Publication or Newsletter Bi-monthly magazine/magazine with member news, shows, paintouts, show reviews and much more. Alternate month Newsletter Supplement containing current show listings, paintouts and workshops is mailed to members. To subscribe, send $45 and mailing information to the above address. The Club has published several catalogues in conjunction with its shows. |
