painting workshop on the beautiful Crystal Coast of North Carolina.
Paul will demonstrate how to lay in an accurate portrayal of the
landscape while dealing with the quickly changing light. He will also
talk to you about the variety of materials and techniques involved in
dealing with the natural environment. Each day will start with a
lecture/demo, followed by plenty of time for students to work.
Individual instruction will be given to each student at each session.
Each day will end with a group critique.

Description: An action packed 2 day painting workshop. The painting
workshop cost is $150.00. Designed for students of all levels. Laura
will demonstrate how to paint a landscape indoors quickly and
relatively small. We will work from a still life and go outside on
Sunday. There will be a slide presentation, a demonstration of how
Laura works and the tools she works with, a quick study exercise for
warm-up and loosening up – a great exercise for comparing line vs.
value. We will be exploring many different aspects of painting from
design and composition to mixing groups of color to make gorgeous
greys and greens. The focus of the workshop will include design,
composition, value, color and brush work. Participants will paint and
the instructor will provide personal assistance. A great workshop
experience and a good time will be had by all!

11th Annual Bisbee Plein Air Painting Competition

Description: Artists are invited to Bisbee, Arizona to paint the
picturesque hillsides of Tombstone Canyon and the Mule Mountains of
Southeastern Arizona. Network with Arizona’s many Plein Air
painters, take advantage of a well-organized venue to sell your work,
and enter to win $2,000 in cash prizes!
The Bisbee Plein Air Painting Competition is open to any artist who
paints using the plein air technique in oil, watercolor, acrylic, or
pastel. The competition will occur in conjunction with the Bisbee
Bloomers Garden Tour on Saturday, September 12, and is sponsored by
the Bisbee Arts Commission.
On Friday evening, a special reception will be held for participating
artists. During the judging on Saturday afternoon, paintings will be
displayed for silent bidding, the galleries on Main Street will be
open and serving refreshments, and entertainment will be provided by
jazz group, Shade, featuring Duane Reilley.

Friday, September 18 —Paris
After breakfast in route to Meudon, our Parisian guide introduces us to fabulous sights: 13th century Gothic Notre Dame Cathedral with tales of Quasimodo, and drive through the courtyard of the Louvre to the Place de la Concorde. Continue to Meudon, whose observatory is built on the foundations of a seventeenth century castle badly damaged during the Siege of Paris, 1871.
From Meudon Park, we will enjoy an unrivalled panoramic view of Paris in a lovely setting that inspired the painter Renoir and the sculptor Rodin, who had studios here. This is an ideal place to paint views of Paris or the fascinating observatory building. (B/L) Request a Brochure

Sunday, September 20 —Paris/Versailles/Giverny/Paris
After breakfast, travel to the elegant town of Versailles to visit the palace built for the Sun King, Louis XIV. Here the members of his court lived in unequalled splendor, enjoying a lifestyle that eventually led to the French Revolution. After a guided tour through the royal apartments there will be time for a stroll through the gardens to see the old roses planted by l’Empereur for Josephine. Continue on to the village of Giverny where Monet lived and painted. We will want to experience these wonderful places without hauling our painting equipment around, but bring your sketchbook and camera to capture your visual notes for all those great paintings you’ll paint when you get back to the States. Monday, September 21 —Paris
This is the ultimate artistic experience short of painting itself, the Louvre. After breakfast, we are off to the Palais Royal Musee du Louvre, designed under Charles V in the 14th Century. Take the Themematic Masterpiece Trail. Not to be missed are Mona Lisa, Venus d’ Milo, Winged Victory of Samothrace, Psychic Awakening Eros or Flandrin’s Young Man Beside the Sea and many, many more. Tonight celebrate with a dinner cruise on the River Seine. cruising past the lighted Notre Dame, the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower. This morning we enjoy a walking tour of the Latin Quarter visiting the Pantheon, St. Sulpice with its Meridian Line, and the interior of Notre Dame Cathedral followed by a leisurely lunch in the Latin Quarter.
